Frequently Asked Questions
What is yoga therapy?
Yoga therapy is the application of yoga principles and practices to promote health and well being. This collaborative process is anchored in classic yogic philosophy integrated with evidence-based practices to empower individuals to create and maintain an optimum state of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health.
What are the benefits of yoga therapy?
Yoga therapy can help people to recover from stress, injuries, surgeries, manage chronic conditions, reduce pain and increase overall health and vitality.
Who can use yoga therapy?
Anyone of any age or physical ability can use yoga therapy. It is a complementary practice that is customized to an individual's personal needs physically and mentally. It requires no prior yoga experience.
What is somatic movement?
Somatic movement is a body-based practice that trains you to consciously notice physical sensations, breath patterns, and subtle internal signals. Rather than focusing on how a movement looks, somatic movement focuses on how it feels. Over time, this exploratory practice builds a more accurate, trusting relationship with your body — one that supports healing, muscle tension release, eases chronic stress tension, and helps regulate the nervous system.
My body hurts. How is somatic movement helpful for me?
Somatic movement is a gentle body-based practice that can be done when your body hurts. It prioritizes mindfulness and interoception (internal body sensations) to release unconscious tension holding patterns. The practice calms an overactive nervous system that can free you from habitual pain patterns.
How does Chinese medicine help? Does this mean needles?
No needles. In Traditional Chinese Medicine the body and mind are not separate. Meridians are the energy pathways through which qi (life force) moves. When pathways are blocked or imbalanced, physical and mental symptoms arise. Meridian-based practices, including specific movement sequences, breathwork, and acupressure points, help restore energy flow and balance throughout your whole being.

How can neuroscience and neuroplasticity support my healing?
Modern research confirms that neuroscience and neuroplasticity support your healing by physically altering your brain's structure and activity in response to body-based practices — yoga therapy, somatic movement, Somatic Experiencing. The brain is plastic, it is changeable. Your brain acts more like molding clay. This means that the emotional or physical patterns you experience are not fixed permanent states. We can change our brains to improve pain tolerance, reduce inflammation, regulate our nervous system, and restore emotional and physical health.
